BASIX: Achieve Targets with Rainwater Tanks

BASIX: Building Sustainability Index The Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) is a NSW Government initiative that aims to deliver equitable, effective water and greenhouse gas reductions across the state. BASIX applies to the development of all new homes and certain alterations and additions in New South Wales. Builders are assessed for BASIX compliance and require a certificate confirming compliance before they can build.

BASIX Water Targets

Reduction of water use in new residential homes forms an important part of the BASIX initiative. A residential property proposal must show how the new home will use up to 40% less potable water than the average “pre-BASIX” home. Rainwater tanks are a great way to achieve BASIX certification for your proposed development. BASIX assesses rainwater collection based on:
  • the capacity of the rainwater tank being installed
  • roof catchment area that will be connected to the rainwater tank
  • how the tank water will be used
  • running overflow from your rainwater tank to another tank for collection and re-use.
National Poly provide rainwater water tanks and complete harvesting systems that can make your BASIX compliance easier. If you are at all unsure, then talk to one of our specialists today on 1800 758 709.
